We had an excellent Green Corporate Energy event on 28th June - 150 attendees and 22 speakers debated the latest in Energy Efficiency strategies: a full day and two roundtable sessions. A number of interesting themes emerged, including;
- Energy Efficiency is an attractive investment class. We looked at 7 companies who between them invested £156m to achieve annual energy savings of £89m. That’s a payback of 1.8 years, which is substantially below the average company’s investment threshold, and with rising energy prices the risks are low.
- The biggest challenge is in skills, not finance. Most companies have been deskilling energy management over the past 20 years, which makes it hard for them to identify opportunities. We looked at an interesting 18-month ESCO arrangement, which is delivering the skills needed whilst retaining the financing opportunity.
- That said, there are also innovative financing solutions being used. Creating internal investment funds, co-investing with pension funds and third party finance will all be growth areas, according to the Survey and panel discussions.
We are now working on a similar style event for Green Strategy on November 16th.... mark your diaries watch this space for more information.
