Many of you who were present at the last Green Monday witnessed a heartfelt plea from Catalina McGregor, Government Deputy Champion Green ICT to Chris Dodwell from DECC to assist the Cabinet Office in obtaining a slot for Green ICT at COP 15 in Copenhagen. Due to a series of timelines and deadlines DECC had said that it would not be possible.
However, Catalina, in her other day job as UN ITU-T JCA Liaison Officer to the OECD and EC, escalated the urgency to her direction and I am pleased to advise you that last week an emergency press conference was called in Barcelona at the UN FCCC Climate Change event regarding Green iCT serving as a key enabler to help deliver those targets. Catalina and other campaigners have now booked a slot on 16 December in the COP15 teleconference programme to lobby for greater awareness of the power of IT in the COP15 proceedings. We hope as ICT forms a major part of each of the remaining countries GDPs that this will inspire those outstanding countries/leaders to feel more confident in accepting the COP 15 terms. Catalina asked me to update all of you to say ʻjob doneʻ.
